Joe Cheng, Jane Zhang, Michael Wong: Mandopop reps for Asia Song Festival '10

With Asia Song Festival 2010 only a month away, organizers for the event have recently released the lineup that will serve to raise funds for a good cause. The famous musical festival, which is held annually in Seoul and features well-known musicians from various parts of East Asia, will continue to uphold the tradition as top artists from K-pop, J-pop, Mandopop, and possibly Cantopop will delight audiences with their melodies.

This year’s event, whose organizing committee is led by none other than international superstar Jackie Chan, has chosen representatives from China, Taiwan, and Malaysia to represent the Mandopop music industry. For China, hugely popular Jane Zhang will take the reins from fellow talent show contestant-turned-superstar and 2009’s representative Li Yu-chun. Taiwan’s representative this time around will be Joe Cheng, whom is better known for his acting roles much like Taiwan’s 2009 representative Show Luo. Nonetheless, Joe will showcase his vocals in front of a dominantly South Korean crowd at a country where the actor/singer enjoys considerable popularity outside his native Taiwan.

While there is still no news as to whether Hong Kong will send a Cantopop representative other than festival non-performer Jackie Chan, Malaysia will be making a return since 2008 with veteran singer Michael Wong taking over ballad singing that fellow countryman Rynn Lim gave back in 2008’s iteration. The rest of the lineup for Asia Song Festival 2010 will be released earlier next month, where there is a likelihood that Hong Kong will announce their representative. The one and only time Hong Kong failed to send a music representative was half a decade ago back in 2005.
