Due to anniversary series "Gun Metal Grey" being neglected at TVB’s Anniversary Gala, series star Felix Wong expressed his frustration on Weibo earlier in the week. The situation attracted much attention from the public as well as overwhelming support from netizens, saying that Felix was right in bursting out at TVB.
Yesterday, Felix Wong and Michael Miu went on Eileen Cha’s radio interview show to discuss the situation. Michael started off by jokingly saying that it was Felix’s fault for causing such a huge uproar. Felix indicated that what he posted on Weibo with regard to the anniversary gala situation were truly words from his heart, however he did not anticipate that there would be such a huge response to it. He expressed that even though he is not a TVB-contracted artist, he really wanted to participate in the anniversary gala – however the fact that the GMG cast was never invited plus the series was barely mentioned did not sit well with him, which caused him to react in that manner.
Known for having an ‘explosive’ temper, Felix indicated that this time around, his explosiveness was only at level 2 – in the past, he would go directly to upper management to voice his concerns and dissatisfaction. Both Felix and Michael expressed that promotions for all series should be evenly distributed as well as impartial and fair. They also reiterated what producer Lee Tim Sing said during his acceptance speech for the Lifetime Achievement award last year: “a little more fairness, a little less selfishness.”
Felix states: “Without TVB, both Michael and I would not have the success we have today, so I sincerely want TVB to be dominant in all of Asia and continue to improve as well as progress. It’s because of my deep affection for the company that I feel an obligation to reproach when I see such injustices.” It was mentioned that perhaps Felix’s daring outspokenness is a disadvantage for him in terms of his career, to which Felix replied that back in the days, there was an instance when he refused to shave his head for a series, which caused him to lose a golden opportunity to do a movie [TN: the movie was "Boat People" from 1982 – Andy Lau got the opportunity instead].
Asked if he would be attending TVB’s Anniversary Awards ceremony, Felix responded that it is up to Michael – if Michael goes, he will go. [TN: If you listen to the actual interview below, Michael did not say whether he will attend or not – he says that he has to ‘think about it’.]
Michael said that even today, there are many things that are still the same with Felix – for example, he is still very daring with his words and still has a very happy, loving family, so let’s just view this ‘outburst situation’ as promotion for GMG.
As for Michael’s ‘rumors’ with Sonjia Kwok, Michael says that he also views it as promotion for his new series, however he feels sorry for Sonjia having to endure the injustices and false accusations. He explained that he was the one who discovered that Sonjia was avoiding him in the beginning because of her previous ‘rumors’ with male co-stars, so he took the initiative to approach her and communicate more with her so they could have better chemistry in the series – in fact, he even enlisted his wife Jamie Chik to help him and accompany him so that Sonjia would feel more comfortable. Unfortunately, the situation was twisted around by the Media and became ‘Michael’s wife visits the set to keep an eye on him’.
