HK actress Sandra Ng to marry director Peter Chan
Hong Kong actress Sandra Ng has revealed that she and long-time boyfriend, director Peter Chan, will tie the knot this year.
The couple, who have a three-year-old daughter, also intend to have a second child this year.
The 44-year-old screen veteran, who made a name for herself playing comic roles, revealed her plans at a promotional event in China for her new movie.
"After giving birth to my [first child], many people started calling me Mrs Chan. That felt quite good, so I am not too concerned about having that paper [marriage certificate] and throwing a wedding banquet," Ng said.
"But it seems I have to give everyone an answer. We originally planned to sign the marriage papers but we were both too busy. If both of us have the time this year, we will sign them [marriage papers]."
Ng, a Golden Horse Best Actress award winner, also said that she had planned to have a second child in 2008 but her work got in the way. However, she is determined to make time this year.
"I wanted to take a break from acting and have a child in 2008 but [actor-producer] Raymond Wong roped me in for 'All's Well, Ends Well 2009'. I kept getting acting offers and I accepted them because I wanted to work with the directors and actors involved. I was busy acting while Peter Chan was busy filming 'Bodyguards and Assasins'. Both of us hardly got any time to sleep, much less have a baby," Ng explained.
"This is the last year in my plan, so I will make time [to get pregnant]," Ng said.
Ng's revelation suggests a sharp change in Chan's views on marriage. Despite sharing an intimate relationship with Ng for many years, Chan had never indicated they would marry.
The 47-year-old director once said at the 2009 Golden Horse awards that "If you do not love each other as much, you need that piece of paper to prove it [your love]. Sandra and I are deeply in love and that is why we will not get married."
