Palm Pre Plus, Pixi Plus get official, Verizon Wireless scoop ‘em up ; hands-on videos

As expected, today Palm has officially unveiled the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus for Verizon Wireless, the largest US mobile carrier.

There are no surprises when it comes to the features that the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus have: they’re similar to the original handsets (available at Sprint), save for the fact that the Pre Plus has 16GB of internal memory and 512MB of RAM, while the Pixi Plus comes with Wi-Fi.

Both the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus will be available through Verizon starting January 25. The Pixi Plus will come with optional Touchstone Back Covers in five colors: orange, pink, blue, green and black.

Verizon’s Pre and Pixi will also be able to use the new Palm mobile hotspot webOS app – which offers “the option of creating a personal Wi-Fi cloud capable of sharing the reliability and high-speed Internet connectivity of the Verizon Wireless 3G network with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices such as notebooks, netbooks, cameras, gaming devices or portable media/MP3 players.”

Unfortunately, Palm didn’t mention the new handsets’ prices. However, it’s likely that the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus will have prices similar to the ones of the Pre and Pixi launched by Sprint last year ($150 and $100, respectively). So, yeah, it looks like those who bought any of the two webOS smartphones from Sprint will feel a bit jealous on Verizon’s users, who get to have improved Pres and Pixis.
