Actress Vicki Zhao to return to work after giving birth

Chinese actress Vicki Zhao, now seven months pregnant with a baby boy, will return to acting soon after delivery because property magnate husband Huang You Long reneged on promises to fund her planned wine-related enterprise, said Hong Kong media.

Zhao, who turns 34 this month, has been together with Huang since he dumped his former fiancee, Miss Hong Kong 2005 winner Tracy Yip, in 2008.

The couple secretly tied the knot in Singapore in August last year.

After their union, Zhao immediately stopped working and did not participate in the promotional activities for her latest film "14 Blades".

Hong Kong media, citing an insider source, said Zhao had stopped working and gone along with Huang's request for a low-profile wedding after he gave her a luxury residence worth millions and promised to fund her wine-related start-up.

Huang, who is worth HK$400 million (S$7.2 million), was also supposed to help pave the way for her entry into the business world.

However, Huang reneged on his promises once he found out that Zhao was pregnant. The 31-year-old reportedly even denied Zhao the right to openly call herself his wife.

Zhao was said to have become worried and spread the word that she will be returning to showbiz soon after giving birth, as a fallback plan if things with Huang do not work out.

Her manager, Chen Rong, confirmed that Zhao has taken on a role in a new "contemporary drama serial that might begin production before July".

Zhao is currently awaiting delivery in Singapore.
