Only 300K Apple iPads may be available in March, production problems rumored
Announced by Apple in January, the iPad should be available for purchase starting this month (well, just the Wi-Fi version, because the release of the Wi-Fi + 3G version is scheduled for April).
However, Apple may launch only a limited number of iPads by the end of March – more exactly, only 300,000 units, although the company would have wanted to launch 1 million units. According to Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek, this could be because of some production problems that Foxconn (the iPad’s manufacturer) has encountered.
The problems might be related to the iPad’s multi-touch LCD display (“glass strength issues”), but Apple hasn’t confirmed this.
If the rumored production problems are true, Apple may even delay the iPad launch, in order to “ensure enough stock.”
As a reminder, the cheaper version of the Apple iPad costs $499 (16GB with Wi-Fi), while the most expensive one will be sold for $829 (64GB with Wi-Fi and 3G). The tablet will probably be offered through AT&T and Best Buy stores, in addition to Apple stores.
