Lady Gaga shows off doily-inspired outfit at HIV concert in Tokyo

Just when you thought Lady Gaga had run out of ideas, up she pops again dressed in yet another strange ensemble.

And this time it appeared as though she had taken inspiration from an old lady's dresser when she appeared in stage in Tokyo last night in an outfit that looked like it was made out of doilies.

Not one to ever dress normally, the singer was clad head-to-toe in lace which appeared to be bandaged around her.

She also had her brassy blonde hair backcombed high above her head, and what looked like a tablecloth tucked into her neck.

It hung down her arm as she danced but she threw it over her head like a ghostly bridal veil as she performed on the piano.

The singer is in Japan where she has just performed some dates as part of her Monster Ball tour.

Last night she performed a special gig at the Tabloid nightclub in Tokyo to promote the MAC Viva Glam Campaign, which was set up by the cosmetics company in 1994 to support men, women and children around the world who are living with and are affected by HIV/AIDS.

The Telephone star was carried round the stage by her semi-naked dancers who appeared to be covered in talcum powder.

And they were certainly very hands-on with her, grabbing her bottom as she danced around the stage.

She performed some of her hits but also urged the crowd to be more open towards HIV and AIDS and talking about the issue instead of keeping it 'under the table'.

Earlier, in an interview with Kyodo News, she said: 'In Japan, women and men do not want to talk about AIDS or HIV. It's really uncommon. We're here now to put it on the table, not under the table.''

Gaga has become a spokesperson for MAC Cosmetics' campaign that provides funds generated through sales of lipsticks to organizations for helping people affected by the virus.

Warning her fans about unprotected sex, she said: 'I sing about sex, I dress sexy...but I want my fans to respect themselves.'

The cosmetic company's president, John Demsey, said the firm chose Lady Gaga as a spokesperson for its Viva Glam campaign because she is a 'thought leader for young people and she is not afraid to talk about things that are too uncomfortable for people'.

Gaga and her entourage are due to leave Japan today for a week's break before heading back to Europe and the UK to continue the tour.
