Google to launch Android Gingerbread in Q4 2010?

While the world is still waiting for Android 2.2 Froyo to be announced, Google is thinking ahead, and it looks like it has already scheduled the release of the next version of Android, codenamed Gingerbread.

According to the folks over at WebM (WebM being “an open, royalty-free, media file format designed for the web”), Android Gingerbread will be released in the fourth quarter of 2010.

AndroidSis has it that Gingerbread is Android OS version 3.0 – however, Google will probably launch one more iteration of the OS before 3.0 and after 2.2. Maybe Android 2.5 or Android 2.6, who knows?

So, while Gingerbread is likely to be the next OS after Android 2.2, it just might not be Android 3.0.

At the moment, there are no details on the features of Android Gingerbread, so let’s wait for more (official or leaked) details to show up.
