Joe Jonas: "It Was My Choice" to Break Up with Demi Lovato
They're done.
After just a few months of dating, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato have called it quits, both stars confirmed Monday.
But despite earlier reports, the breakup didn't happen over the phone, Lovato says. "There are so many crazy rumors flying around today," Lovato Tweeted. "Joe and I did split, but it wasn't over the phone. Things didn't work out but we'll remain friends."
"Demi and I knew going into our romantic relationship that it may not be an easy one," Jonas says in a statement to Us. "I realize over the time we have shared together that I feel I care more about our friendship right now. It was my choice to breakup, but I love her as a friend. She's been there for me when I needed her. I will continue to be her friend and be there for her."
(Jonas has ended at least once relationship via phone: back in November 2008, Jonas' ex Taylor Swift admitted he dumped her during a "27 second" phone call a month before.)
Lovato, 17, met Jonas, 20, in 2007 on the set of Disney channel series Camp Rock. The pair finally acknowledged their romance in a March radio interview with Access Hollywood's Billy Bush.
The former couple will still have to deal with one another this summer: they're set to tour together this summer.
Just last week, Lovato gushed to Us that Jonas was "my first serious relationship...He knows me better than I know myself, and I know him better than he knows himself."
"She's a strong girl," a source close to the couple says, adding that the breakup isn't "necessarily" forever. "They are so young...I wouldn't count them out yet."
Lovato also shot down reports that she's already seeing someone new post-Joe. "I am NOT dating anybody already," she Tweeted. "Nothing is more important to me than the relationship I have with my fans."
Demi Lovato Leans on Wilmer Valderrama After Joe Jonas Split
That was fast! Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas have called it quits, but Demi may already be moving on to a new man.
Just last week, Joe told E! News how excited he was to have his then-girlfriend join him on tour this summer.
But a source confirms that the Disney twosome have indeed split and that Demi's been in constant contact with Wilmer Valderrama, who she worked with when they shot PSAs together in January and March.
Apparently, the two have kept in touch since then...
"She complained about Joe to him a lot," a source tells E! News. "Now they're talking and dating." Wilmer's rep counters our report and says it's "not true".
(Wilmer is 30 and Demi is 17. Just sayin'.)
But the show must go on for Demi and Joe, who are scheduled to tour together this summer for Camp Jonas. They both performed Friday on Good Morning America.
Regarding the breakup, Joe's rep told E!: "We don't comment on our clients' personal lives".
