Edison Chen steps out as film producer
Hong Kong actor-singer Edison Chen revealed his plans to start his own film company and work on a film next year, during a book signing event in Shanghai on Sunday, said Chinese media.
The 29-year-old, who had spent most of his time in the United States since his sex photo scandal hit headlines in 2008, said he will neither star nor direct the film, but will instead be the film’s producer.
Chen explained that he decided to be the producer as he was not sure what his comeback acting role should be, and did not have what it takes to direct a film yet.
“I am still not prepared to be a director, so if I directed a film now, it would definitely turn out to be a bad film. That is why I am studying under an accomplished film producer and working with (Hong Kong film veteran) Eric Tseng’s film company.
“Although I spent one and a half months studying film-making in the U.S., theory and practice are two different things, so I need someone to take the lead on the project,” said Chen.
Chen added that he will be focusing on growing his film company for the next few years, but expressed that he will continue to pay attention to his fashion label Clot Inc. and his musical career.
Chen went on to reveal that his upcoming album, which is scheduled for an October release, will feature a number of heavy hitters in the Mandopop scene.
M.C. Hotdog, D.J. Tommy and even Asian superstar Jay Chou, along with a number artistes from other parts of the world, will be involved in the production of Chen's album.
