EEG flies solo for New Talent Singing Contest 2010, Joey Yung & Leo Ku "Hell Instructors"
The royalty issue between TVB and the Big 4 record companies still have not been resolved yet. This leads to better collaboration opportunities between EEG and TVB, but for this year's "New Talent Singing Contest 2010", EEG decided to fly solo, changed to collaborate with a telecommunication company. It was rumored that because TVB was heavily promoting newcomers from their self-produced music program "The Voice", which EEG felt is similar to their New Talent Singing Contest, they rather work with a new partner. However, to maintain the relationship with TVB, EEG still bought a time slot to broadcast the finals on TVB.
EEG's "New Talent Singing Contest" has always been a collaboration with TVB, but this year things changed. Yesterday at the press conference, EEG Artist Management Director Mani Fok expressed that they will collaborate with a telecommunications company. Participants are welcomed to create a 30 second self-introduction clip and a 2 minute song clip to be placed online for her, Ng Yue and other judges to look at. 50 Participants will be selected to participate in the second round. Then the "Most Popular Online King and Queen" will be selected from a shopping center performance. Finally, the strongest 10 contestants will participate in the finals on August 31st.
Mani said that they will purchase a time slot from TVB to broadcast the final round. When asked why they didn't collaborate with TVB this year, is it because TVB's "The Voice" is too similar to EEG's contest? Mani explained that its because they want to give people who can sing more opportunities to perform on a different stage.
Joey Yung, Leo Ku, Deep Ng, Sherman Chung, William Chan, and Ken Hung attended the press conference. Joey and Leo will be the "Hell Instructors" for the 10 finalist, adding more training for the finalist. Asked if Joey will be like Teresa Carpio, heavily criticizing the contestants? Joey said: "I will be direct, want to enter the music industry, then need to have real skills." Back then, was her mentor Roman Tam really strict to her? She said her mentor did criticize her image and that she should improve it. But he never scolded her to tears.
Joey also said that she rarely goes out to play, she stays home and goes on the computer for her leisure. Asked if she does online dating? She joked that she sees good looking guys every day, but she's afraid of getting fooled, so she won't date online. She mainly surfs the net and listens to music online. Joey will be holding a concert in Hong Kong Coliseum in November, this time she has no plans on how many shows there will be, but she said that her costume and performance will be exaggerated. (How exaggerated?) She joked that she can't reveal it now before it gets copied by others.
Asked Leo Ku, TVB has "The Voice", will it be high competition with "New Talent Singing Contest"? He believes that it won't be, he said that both are different singing contests and can get more new singers. He also said that when training the contestants, he will be retain himself and not do heavy criticisms.
Leo also said that he has a lot of books on his bookshelf teaching him how to approach young people. Back then when he entered the industry, he was the host for an entertainment news program (娛樂新聞眼), and was also spotted on the street by a Modeling company, they said that he has the qualities to be a model and brought him to their office. However, they wanted Leo to take out HK$10,000 to change his image, Leo said that luckily he got away and didn't lose anything.
