Final Fantasy XIV for Xbox 360 'paused'

Recent rumors have suggested that the Xbox 360 version of Square Enix's wildly anticipated Final Fantasy XIV has been canceled.

It hasn't, according to the game's producer.

In an interview with video game publication VG247, Square Enix's Hiromichi Tanaka said that while the Xbox 360 version of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game hasn't been nixed, the company has decided to "pause" its development until some issues with Xbox Live are sorted out.

"We're still talking with Microsoft at the moment, so there is no update as to when we'll start again," Tanaka told the video game publication. He went on to say that if Xbox Live issues are worked out, the game should make its way to the console. He didn't elaborate, however, on the issues Square-Enix is having with Microsoft's online-gaming platform or when it would be released on Microsoft's console.

Microsoft didn't immediately respond to request for comment.

Although the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIV is being held up, the game is still on track to hit its scheduled Windows PC release date of September 30. The company also plans to bring the game to the PlayStation 3 next March. The PC version of the game will cost $49.99. Players will also need to pay a $12.99 subscription fee for every 30 days they play the game online.
