Samsung Galaxy U is now official in South Korea

The specs of the Samsung Galaxy U (SHW-M130L) have leaked just a couple of days ago, and it was clear then that the official announcement of this handset couldn’t be far away.

And indeed it wasn’t. The Samsung Galaxy U got official today for LG’s U+ network in South Korea. Samsung PR would have us believe that the “U” in Galaxy U stands for “Unique grip design”, “Ultimate display”, “Utilitarian apps” and “Ubiquitous features” such as WiFi. However, I think it was simply inspired by the name of the carrier it’s launching on.

Anyway, if you want some U action, you can get it for 800,000 South Korean won (approximately $676) in white or black.

Its specs are, as expected, those that were leaked before. Here’s a quick recap:
  • Android 2.1
  • 1GHz S5PC111 CPU
  • 3.7-inch 16M AMOLED Plus (480×800) touchscreen
  • 5 megapixel autofocus camera with 720p HD video recording
  • Network: J-CDMA, CDMA Rev. A
  • T-DMB
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth: 3.0
  • Video Formats: MP, 3GP, 3GPP, K3G, Divx, Avi, Mkv, flv, asf
  • Audio Formats: MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG, AAC, MID, MIDI, FLAC
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • MicroSD card slot: 8GB bundled, up to 32GB supported
  • Other Features: OZ Store, Kyobo e-book, Daum maps, Allshare, Live wallpapers, access to Google services
  • 1500mAh battery
  • Dimensions: 119.5×59.6×12.4mm
  • Weight: 131g

So if your carrier of choice in South Korea is LG U+, there’s now a high-end Samsung Galaxy Android-powered smartphone available for you.
