Gillian ready to move on with ‘mature-minded man’

Gillian Chung is ready to love again, having moved on from a sex scandal that almost destroyed her career.

“Not every guy is bad,” she said. “I want a boyfriend who is ‘mature-minded’ and likes me for who I am. He shouldn’t try to change me.”

Chung, who was here on Friday for the launch of Jaz Beer’s latest creation, Jaz Fresh, also said she would pick more mature movie roles now. Jaz-ed up: Chung at the Jaz Fresh launch in Kuala Lumpur yesterday

“I used to play the part of a teeny bopper’s. Now I look for something more challenging. I would like to play ‘crazy’ characters in mou lei tao (slapstick) comedies,” she said.

“I’ve grown up, so it’s only natural to want to try different things,” the 29-year-old Hong Kong artiste told The Star.

Her fans are standing by her, too.

About 40 of them from her fan club braved the rain outside a restaurant at a shopping mall here for about two hours just to catch a glimpse of her.

The fresh-faced beauty made their wait worthwhile when she treated them to a rendition of Long Fa Siong Tek Yan (Riding on a Wave) – the latest single on her new EP (demo) album which is set for an October release.

She is all geared up for a Sept 28 concert with Charlene Choi, the other half of popular group Twins.

Chung was a poster child of girly innocence until the 2008 scandal where obscene pictures of her with celebrity Edison Chen appeared online.

She kept a low profile but eventually emerged to make a public apology to her fans, saying she was sorry for hurting those around her, especially Choi.

Since then, Chung has re-invented herself to portray a more grown-up woman and become the spokesperson of Jaz Beer (a Malaysian brand).
