Hankyung fans in S'pore turn violent

Fans turned violent when they were unable to get an autograph from pop star Han-kyung who was in Singapore to promote his first solo album release last Friday, reported local paper Shin Min Daily News.

About 2,000 fans had turned up at Lot One Shopper's Mall for a meet-and-greet session at 4pm that afternoon, with many turning up at the venue as early as 10pm the night before to reserve a spot in line.

However, about 200 fans were unable to get their turn with Han as the 26-year-old singer had to leave after 50 minutes for a rehearsal.

Angry and upset, some started bawling and screaming, even going so far as to hit security guards when they tried to remove the fans from the stage.

Barricades were put up earlier by security staff to facilitate queues during the session and the mall's management even deployed an extra two security guards for the night shift to oversee the safety of the fans and shops.

Han, who debuted as a member of Korean boy band Super Junior in 2005, was the only one chosen from a talent pool of 3,000 to join SM Entertainment, Korea's largest talent agency, which also manages popular stars like the Girls Generation and Dong Bang Shin Ki.

He left the band and filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment last year to release him from a 13-year contract, and is now pursuing a career in the Mando-pop industry.
