Jay wants to stay single

The superstar dismisses rumours that his songs refer to his love life and reveals that he has been single for a long time

Superstar Jay Chou is in no hurry for love.

Instead, he's enjoying the bachelor life. On a talk-show in China, the Taiwanese Prince of Pop revealed that he does not feel that he is ready for marriage and his mother is not hurrying him to.

"I've been single for a very long time!" Jay quips.

About his new single Chao Ren Bu Hui Fei (loosely translates to Superman Can't Fly) from his latest album, Jay explained that the song is an account of his 10-year journey in the music industry.

In the song, there is a part where Jay sings about superheroes not allowed to have tears; when asked if he has cried recently, Jay revealed that he rarely does.

"I only cry when needed in movies but that isn't real either. I don't wear my heart on my sleeve, so even if I feel really touched I won't cry either."

He also dismissed the links between his songs and his own love life, saying that he already expected the paparazzi to link the ballads in his album to his 'ex-girlfriends'.

"You don't have to try and find clues about me from my songs because I don't write about my own feelings. I write songs based on general feelings that everyone will have. I don't write my own lyrics either to avoid misunderstandings."

When the host of the talk-show praised Jay as the new 'heavenly king' of the Chinese pop industry - the title 'Four Heavenly Kings' was previously given to superstars Lau, Leon Lai, Aaron Kwok and Jacky Cheung - Jay humbly plays it down.

"Only the Four Heavenly Kings are the real kings; there's no way I can measure up to them."
