It's not exactly Danielle vs. Theresa on last night's Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion show, but there's a battle brewing between James Cameron and Piranha 3D.
In a Vanity Fair interview posted on the magazine's website yesterday, the Avatar director trashes the new maneating-fish horror flick. Now, the Piranha peeps are fighting back and it's nasty...
In short, Cameron hated on the just-released third installment of the Piranha franchise because he feels it "is exactly an example of what we should not be doing in 3-D." He goes on to say it "cheapens the medium." (FYI: He also noted that, yes, he was fired after just a few days of directing Piranha 2.)
Piranha 3D producer Mark Canton is pissed.
"His comments are ridiculous, self-serving and insulting to those of us who are not caught up in serving his ego and rhetoric," Canton said in a 1,374-word statement released earlier today.
After accusing Cameron of not even seeing the movie, he takes a couple of swipes at Avatar. "To be honest, I found the 3-D in Avatar to be inconsistent and while groundbreaking in many respects, sometimes I thought it overwhelmed the storytelling," he said. "Technology aside, I wish Avatar had been more original in its storytelling."
No word if Cameron will take the bait and respond.
If he does, we'd like to suggest, "Bitch, I'm gonna pin you down!"
