Twitter for iPad App Unveiled

Twitter, the micro-blogging social network service has released a new Twitter for iPad App which is available for free. The app has been released by Twitter to take on third party apps like TweetDeck and the much hyped Flipboard App for iPad. Meant for the 9.7-inch Apple iPad, the Twitter for iPad app makes the best of the iOS platform and brings several features like panes to view contents and enjoy embedded content.

The new Twitter for iPad app basically makes the best of the multitouch interface and gestures for an interactive experience. Custom coded for the iPad's touch interface, the new Twitter for iPad offers a series of panes that will expand and retract based on how you interact with particular functions. For instance, if you tap on a Twitter update that has link to a video/photo/blog then it will open in a new pane. If you tap again on the video/photo/blog link then it will open and play in line. However, you may find video streaming a bit slow.

An interesting feature in the Twitter for iPad app is the support to play embedded media content. Of course, gesture support makes it easier for iPad owners to pinch for zooming to a text or tweet and replying to the person. To view all replies you've received, use two finger scroll with a 'pull action'. Also, if you pinch on a video then you can watch the video in full screen mode. This is sweet feature and we now only hope to share photos from the iPad to Twitter directly through the iPad.

However, the 'no need to login' feature worries us a bit. The iOS 4.2 update for iPad will bring multitasking, but the Twitter for iPad will keep you signed in and keep pulling data over Wi-Fi.

Download free Twitter for iPad app from App Store (iTunes Link).
