HTC Desire HD vs. EVO 4G... fight!

By now you've probably read our Desire HD review and you've seen how HTC's latest Android flagship stacks up against its Windows Phone 7 sibling, the HD7. But how does it fare against the original Android giant, Sprint's EVO 4G? The devices share common displays (4.3-inch WVGA) and cameras (8 megapixel with dual LED flash) -- but they use different radios (HSPA+ versus CDMA / WiMAX) and processors (first-generation Snapdragon in the EVO, second-gen in the Desire). In fact, the two phones actually have very different personalities when you consider the Desire HD's aluminum unibody case and the EVO 4G's HDMI output and kickstand. Take a look at these mighty beasts side-by-side in our gallery -- along with a video after the break!

Note: In the video we mention that the Desire HD features a front facing camera. This is incorrect.

Google Co-Founders Wanted Steve Jobs To Be CEO of Google

When Sergey Brin and Larry Page were first looking for a CEO to run Google, they met with Steve Jobs. The Google co-founders left that meeting wanting the CEO of Apple to become the CEO of Google.

According to interviews in Bloomberg's documentary series, Game Changers, that's who the two boywonders wanted as their head honcho. At the time (early 2000's), Sergey and Larry had interviewed some 12-13 candidates to become CEO of Google but didn't like any of 'em. Instead they wanted Jobs, their quote-unquote hero, to be the CEO. Unfortunately Jobs was busy running some other company that was about to embark on a renaissance for the ages.

The Google dudes ended up finding and picking Eric Schmidt who interestingly doesn't really resemble Jobs at all. It's funny to think what would've happened if things played out differently (even if it was probably never serious for Jobs). Maybe Apple and Google wouldn't hate each other. Maybe there would be no iPhone. Or no Android. Ah! Never mind! I like the world as it is now.

Microsoft Has Seen The Light. And It’s Not Silverlight.

Nearly a year ago, Microsoft pulled together a group of reporters for Bing Fall Release event. The highlight of the presentation was a demo showing off some nifty new features in Bing Maps. The problem? All of this stuff required Microsoft’s Silverlight browser plug-in to work. I berated the company for once again pushing users towards a more proprietary web. So today it’s time to laud them, as they seem to be backing away from that strategy.

During last week’s Professional Developers Conference (PDC), ZDNet’s Mary-Jo Foley asked Bob Muglia, Microsoft’s SVP of the Server and Tools Business, why the company failed to highlight Silverlight in a meaningful way this year. His answer was rather surprising.

“Silverlight is our development platform for Windows Phone,” he said. And while he said that the technology has some “sweet spots” for media applications (presumably like Netflix, which uses Silverlight on the web), its role as a vehicle for delivering a cross-platform runtime appears to be over. “Our strategy has shifted,” is how Muglia put it.

After the previous movie "Initial D" was released in 2005 there have been rumours about a sequel, but after 5 years there was still nothing. Andrew Lau explained: "We couldn't find a suitable entry point, plus we thought at the time filming racing cars was a bit dangerous. If we start filming next year we will be fully prepared in terms of safety."

Early on in 2005 not long after "Initial D" came out, Andrew Lau and Alan Mak revealed that they planned to start filming the sequel in 2006 at the Alpes, they confirmed Jay Chou was going to continue to play Fujiwara Takumi. At the time it was rumoured that there was a rift between Edison Chen and Alan Mak and that he might be taken out of the sequel. 2PM’s Taecyeon confesses that Jaebeom’s withdrawal was the worst moment of his life

For KBS 2TV’s “Oh My School“, 2PM’s Ok Taecyeon drew a graph charting the most significant moments of his life, and chose former member Park Jaebeom’s departure as the worst moment.

Ok Taecyeon explained that his life had a total of three crucial events: the first being his immigration to America, his repetitive life as a JYP Entertainment trainee, and finally, 2PM’s former leader’s Park Jaebeom’s withdrawal.

He explained,

“Last year, while promoting ‘Heartbeat,’ I created the ‘Jjit-Taecyeon’ nickname with our zombie performance. That nickname became something indescribable in my life, as our popularity at the time was sky-rocketing. Unfortunately, my life fell straight through the floor in the midst of the ‘Jjit-Taecyeon’ time due to the departure of a team member.”

In his graph, Park Jaebeom’s exit was drawn directly on the bottom edge of the sheet. JYPE terminated Park Jaebeom’s contract this past February, leading to a secession of 2PM activities and the jump into a solo career.

'Saw 3D' collects $10.7 mil on Friday

The Saw franchise’s swan song held a captive audience on Friday, as Saw 3D drained $10.7 million, according to early estimates. (More specifically, the film made $9 million Friday and $1.7 million from late-night Thursday screenings). By comparison, Saw II through Saw V all registered larger opening days, but Saw 3D did manage to trump Saw VI‘s $7 million opening from last year. According to Lionsgate, Saw 3D – the supposed last entry in the seven-film horror series — earned 93 percent of its Friday figure from 3-D showings. The movie’s weekend tally will almost certainly be front-loaded since the series’ die-hard fans likely rushed out to see Saw 3D on Friday (or late Thursday night), and many young adults should be occupied the rest of the weekend with Halloween festivities. As a result, expect the flick to drop on Saturday and Sunday (something every Saw movie has done its debut weekend) and finish the weekend with around $22 million.

Paramount’s Paranormal Activity 2 plummeted 71 percent from its massive $20.1 million opening last Friday, earning an estimated $5.8 million yesterday. Figure a weekend total of about $16 million, which will bring the film’s two-week tally to just over $65 million. All eyes will now be watching to see whether Paranormal 2 can match the original film’s final gross of $107.9 million. In third place, Summit’s Red continued to display remarkable resilience — the action comedy slipped only 25 percent for $3.4 million. Jackass 3D didn’t show the same endurance, nosediving 58 percent for a $3.1 million take. Nevertheless, the sociological experiment should pass $100 million by Sunday. And rounding out the top five was Warner Bros.’ Hereafter, which fell 49 percent for $2.1 million. Check back here on Sunday for the complete box office report.

1. Saw 3D — $10.7 mil
2. Paranormal Activity 2 — $5.8 mil
3. Red — $3.4 mil
4. Jackass 3D — $3.1 mil
5. Hereafter — $2.1 mil

Kristen Stewart: No, You Can't Take My Picture!

"It's strange when you become a novelty...It's sort of like, 'Yeah, sure. Go put this on your Facebook so your friends can laugh at it.' And I usually say no to people like that, when they're like, 'Yo, yo, can I get a picture of you?' And it's like, 'No...you [#$*!].' That's what I'm thinking."

—Kristen Stewart chatting with the L.A. Times recently about getting recognized when she's out and about

The article notes how cool and calm Stewart was during the interview until a guy (we wouldn't even say fan since he had to ask her full name) noticed her and asked to get a picture for his girlfriend.

Isn't that why we love this girl—for saying what every other celeb in the world wishes they had the guts to admit?

Whatever, nice of K.Stew to oblige the common folk, but we think she does it with a little more heart when they are real fans.

YG releases 2NE1 teaser photo featuring all four members

The girls of 2NE1 are scheduled to start their follow-up promotions with “It Hurts” on “Inkigayo” later tonight, and while they have already released a teaser photo of their concept featuring Dara, now YG has released a teaser photo with all four members.

Justin Timberlake the action hero gives damsel in distress Olivia Wilde mouth-to-mouth

If Jessica Biel is the jealous type, it may be best she keeps clear of Justin Timberlake's latest film set. The 29-year-old singer turned leading man was spotted in a clinch with his co-star Olivia Wilde on the set of his new film, I'm Mortal. He appeared to be giving the brunette bombshell mouth-to-mouth as she lay in his arms.

The film, which also stars Amanda Seyfried, is set in a world where people stop ageing at 25 and must buy time in order to live forever. Justin stars as a young rebel falsely accused of murdering a time-wealthy man.The Social Network star has been under attack away from the camera.

Ron Howard Refuses to Remove Joke from 'The Dilemma'

Universal Pictures addressed the furor over its trailer for 'The Dilemma,' in which Vince Vaughn's character calls an electric car gay, by yanking the clip and editing the remark out of a newly released version.

But tweaking the trailer is apparently as far as the studio -- and Ron Howard -- intends to go.

The director has penned a lengthy statement to an L.A. Times blogger, philosophizing about his own dilemma: cut the line from the finished film, as requested by GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) and its supporters, or preserve the inflammatory wisecrack, even if he personally disagrees with the sentiment.

The upshot is that Howard will keep the joke in his final cut. Sources say he considered the matter seriously, consulting various advisers within his studio, his cast and "the larger comedy community," before taking a stand.

Unlocked GSM Palm Pre 2 to be 'available direct from HP,' Gorilla Glass on the front

We've been toying with a Palm Pre 2 for a few weeks now, but given that it's not "final hardware," we can't exactly make any firm judgments on the unit itself. Tim Pettitt, product manager for HP Palm, can. In speaking with MarkGuim.tv (and slyly handling a Verizon Pre 2), he not only confirmed that the company was relying on a layer of the famed Gorilla Glass to keep the front as scratch-resistant as possible, but also that the five megapixel camera is capable of capturing a shot every second. More importantly, however, he made clear that it wouldn't be just the developers nabbing an unlocked GSM Pre 2. According to Tim, that very handset will be "available direct from HP.com," though he stopped short of saying whether it would support T-Mobile's AWS 3G band. For AT&T loyalists, however, we're guessing this may be the best way to nab webOS on the network that's still rethinking possible.

S.H.E. wins big at Singapore Hit Awards 2010; Hebe Tien holds back tears at mention of Selina

Taiwan pop trio S.H.E swept up five awards at this year's Singapore Hit Awards 2010 (SHA 2010) at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday.

Hebe Tien, the only S.H.E. member who was present at the event, collected the trophies for the Asia Media Award (Group), Best Group, Most Popular Group/Band, as well as the Y.E.S. 93.3FM Pick of the Pops: Song of the Year and Y.E.S. 93.3FM Pick of the Pops: Artiste with Most Chart Hits awards, on behalf of the group.

"If I had known I was going to receive so many awards, I wouldn't have worn such high heels!

"My legs are sore, my arms are sore, but I feel great!" joked Tien as she accepted S.H.E's fourth award for the evening.

Tien may have been overjoyed by the trio's performance at the awards, but she still looked a little subdued offstage, probably due to the fact that her group mate Selina Jen was still in hospital after an accident on the film set left her with severe burns.

The 27-year-old almost burst into tears when she spoke of her stricken group mate during her acceptance speech after receiving the award for Most Popular Band/Group, describing the award as being especially meaningful in these difficult times.

Taecyeon and Jessica couple rumor denied

After the shocking news of SHINee’s Jonghyun and Shin Se Kyung being a couple broke out, many heads then turned towards 2PM’s Taecyeon and SNSD’s Jessica being an item.

With what many thought would become a trend, in idols revealing their significant others, unfortunately (or fortunately for many fans) will end here (for now).

The Korea Herald reported, that both JYP Entertainment and SM Entertainment have stated that Taecyeon and Jessica dating is not true.

Denying dating rumors is the typical approach all entertainment labels take, but after the JongKyung incident, does a statement from the labels now warrant enough of a guarantee for you fans to believe in them? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Will Smith Nabs Nicole Scherzinger, Betty White For Men in Black 3

The third Men In Black movie is coming together just fine, thankyouverymuch.

Nicole Scherzinger has just confirmed that…

She and Betty White have signed on to appear in the upcoming Will Smith flick. The Pussycat Dolls singer told us at last night's Rocky Horror Picture Show tribute benefiting the Painted Turtle that she begins rehearsals next week followed by a December shoot.

Scherzinger didn't have deets on White's part, but said of her own role, "My name is Lilly. She's like a small villain role. I'm so excited because I get to die. I make an appearance. I say a couple of lines and then I die."

Charlie Sheen's Porn Star Escort Wants Huge Pay Day

Capri Anderson, the porn star police found locked inside Charlie Sheen's hotel bathroom, reportedly wants $12,000 for her services and has hired a lawyer. Anderson claims Sheen has not paid her and may file charges against him.

As previously reported, police were called to Sheen's Plaza Hotel suite at around 2AM Tuesday, where they found the star both drunk and naked in the heavily-damaged room. Further reports indicated he was high on cocaine and believed the 22-year-old porn star had taken his personal items, and that he trashed the suite in a fit of rage.

PopEater's own Amber James stopped by Fox 5's 'Good Day New York' to discuss the latest allegations in the case and how Sheen's ex wife, Denise Richards, is reacting to the situation.

The PlayStation Phone: new photos, more details!

We've gotten our hands on some more images of the PlayStation Phone, and gleaned a few more juicy details about the handset. Firstly, as you can see in the photos, the model in question does indeed seem to be codenamed "Zeus" (as we reported on the 27th). Furthermore, the handset pictured is running Android 2.2, though apparently there are multiple devices out there with different versions on board (including at least one packed with Android 3.0). Based on what we know, there's little chance the phone will launch with Froyo -- but it's clear these have been worked on for some time with various versions of the OS.

The device appears to have an 8GB microSD card slotted, and at least 512MB of internal storage (though we're hoping it's the 1GB we've heard would be present). As you can see from the pictures in the gallery below, the device isn't exactly thin -- we surmise that the handset is around 17mm thick, or slightly thicker than HTC's Touch Pro 2 (and funnily enough, about the same as the PSPgo). From a design standpoint, the device seems to have more in common with BlackBerry handsets than previous Sony Ericsson phones; that smoky chrome bezel which surrounds the device is definitely giving us Torch flashbacks. As always, we're hard at work digging up more info on the phone (and potentially more images), but for now, just sit tight and enjoy the exclusive photos below.

Facebook holding mobile event next week

The much-rumored and quickly denied Facebook phone could finally be unveiled next week--or at least something new relating to using the social network on mobile devices.

Earlier today the company began sending out invites to members of the press for a mobile-focused event next Wednesday at its headquarters in Palo Alto, Calif.

Back in September, rumors began swirling that the company was working with device manufacturers on a Facebook-branded handset. A Facebook spokesperson quickly responded by saying that it was flat-out false, and that "building phones is just not what we do."

Recent numbers made public by the companyhad said more than 150 million of its 500 million active members use the site from their phones. Facebook maintains both a mobile-friendly version of the site, and native software applications--both of which could end up being the focus of Wednesday's event, among possible hardware developments and partner tie-ins. we will be on the scene to bring you the news.

Heavenly Kings "Guy-Guy Love?" : Jay & Show Together At a 5-star Hotel

With hosts Asia's Heavenly King Jay Chou, Tu Kuo-Cgang, Mai, and Elly Otoguro on CTI Entertainment Channel, "Mr. J Channel" will premiere on 10/30 at 8 PM, and will air again at 10 PM the next day on CTI Variety, and CTV will also air it each Saturday staring 11/6 at 10 PM. Asia's Dance King Show Lo will be guesting on the first episode. When he first walked into the studio, he exclaimed, "Wow! The studio is so big." Show kept his usual humor, "I never thought about being in showbiz for 10+ years, going on a show and having you inviting me out and interviewing me!" Jay immediately teased, "I never thought that after being in showbiz for 10 years, I'd have to wait for an hour for anyone!" Though it's Jay's first time hosting a show and having to interview the very experienced Show Lo, but he didn't hold back, no matter what challenges/gags Show gave him, Jay was able to catch them and carry them well. And the gift that Show brought for good friend Jay Chou for getting a new TV show was revealing their unknown ambiguous relationship!

Show and Jay's relationship is so close that you can't imagine, having held hands and walked into a 5-star hotel! Show said, "A long time ago, Jay forgot his dormitory keys, and on a spur, he thought to go to a certain renowned 5-star hotel for the president suite. At the time, we even walked hand in hand together, thinking we'd let paparazzi catch us, but I wasn't popular, and he was a newcomer, no paparazzi wanted a picture of that!" The two even acted as gay couple, Show continued to say, "After we finished showering, we were in bathrobes sitting next to the floor-length window, chatting and watching the view. But when we were going to bed, Jay put a pillow in the middle, and warned me, don't cross this!" Jay immediately explained, "At the time he was a pretty-boy, I was afraid that while we were sleeping he'd accidentally touch me!"

Samsung notches record profits, aims to sell ten million Galaxy S phones this year

My, how a year changes things. Q3 2009 was a nightmare for mega-corps in terms of earnings, but things have definitely been on the up and up just 12 months later. After Sony pushed out a glowing quarterly report this morning, rival Samsung has done likewise. The company saw record breaking revenues of ₩40.23 trillion ($35.8 billion) as well as profits (₩4.46 trillion; $3.96 billion) in this most recent quarter, with Sammy crediting strong semiconductor performance for the bulk of its newfound fortune. A tip of the hat was also given to its mobile communications business, with the outfit moving a staggering 71.4 million phones during Q3 2010 (a 19 percent boost year-over-year). Reports are noting that between five and seven million of those were of the Galaxy S variety, and it's hoping to sell ten million of 'em before the close of this year. All that said, the firm isn't expecting an equally rosy Q4, noting that a strengthening won and heightened price pressures around LCD panels and DRAM could put a damper on skyrocketing profits. So much for taking a day to celebrate, eh?

Microsoft unlocks Windows Phone 7 developers

Microsoft is making a change to its policies for Windows Phone 7 that will allow applications to more easily run when the screen is turned off.

Until now, applications that wanted to run when the screen was locked had to get the user's explicit permission. Under new rules announced on Friday, programs can do so without permission--provided they first demonstrate to Microsoft that they only use a reasonable amount of battery life (allowing more than six hours of use for an app playing audio and more than 120 hours for a program that does not play audio).

The move comes as the first Windows Phone 7 devices have gone on sale in Europe and Asia, with the first phones hitting the U.S. market on November 8.

The policy change is a matter of both convenience--audio apps, for example, make sense to play when the screen is off--as well as fairness. Many of Microsoft's own apps, including application downloading, e-mail syncing, and Zune playback and downloads are all allowed to happen in the background.

Taylor Swift Quizzed on Jake Gyllenhaal by Ellen DeGeneres

Getting to the heart of the matter, Ellen DeGeneres doesn't let Taylor Swift off the hook when it comes to asking what's going on between the country superstar and Jake Gyllenhaal.

"Are you optimistic about love? How do you feel about love right now?" DeGeneres, addressing the topic at hand, asks Swift on The Ellen DeGeneres Show episode airing Monday.

"I'm always optimistic about love," responds Swift 20.

Confirming Swift's stance, DeGeneres repeats, "So you're always optimistic about love?"

"Yes, always, sometimes," says Swift, beginning to backtrack slightly.

"But right now you are?" asks DeGeneres.

"Well, why wouldn't anyone be?" says Swift, before DeGeneres boldly states, "Especially if your boyfriend is Jake Gyllenhaal, because he is very handsome."

But, DeGeneres concludes, "Y'all are just hanging out though, right?"

Swift acknowledges that she and Gyllenhaal were photographed together in New York last weekend. As the singer says to DeGeneres, "You have a picture of us on the [TV] screen, don't you?"

"Right," admits DeGeneres. "But it's just y'all hanging out – this does not prove anything. I'm just saying he's adorable and I like him very much, and so if that is the case that he's your boyfriend, I think that's fantastic."

Still, noting that Swift herself admits that she writes songs about her boyfriends once the relationships end, DeGeneres asks Swift on Gyllenhaal's behalf, "Wouldn't he be nervous if anything goes wrong?'

PICS: Charlie Sheen, Porn Star Booze It Up Before Fiasco

Hours before Charlie Sheen trashed his Plaza Hotel suite, the actor really lived it up at NYC eatery Daniel with porn star Capri Anderson, ex-wife Denise Richards and other pals.

New photos from TMZ show Sheen, 45, letting loose at a table covered with glasses of wine and cocktails. The website confirms that the actor splurged on two bottles of Grand Vin de Chateau Latour 1959 -- which cost $5900 per bottle.

At Sheen's side in one shot: Anderson, the woman who was later in the hotel room after Sheen's outburst caused a reported $7,000 in damages.

Some reports claim that Sheen flew into a rage and turned the room upside down specifically because he was looking for an expensive watch that had disappeared.

Capri Anderson, who first called hotel security, told Entertainment Tonight: "I never took the watch."

Fortune: Verizon iPhone confirmed for ‘early 2011′

When this Verizon iPhone situation is all said and done, the iPhone will, in all likelihood, go down in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most confirmed, unconfirmed device in electronics-history. In an exposé about Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg, Fortune can’t seem to steer clear of Apple and the iPhone. Noting Seidenberg’s success in transforming Verizon from a $13 billion per year business into a $108 billion per year business, Fortune quipps that “every tech company” — including Apple — “must find a way to partner with it [Verizon].” The beginning of the article contains the line that the entire blogosphere, and most of the mainstream media, will latch on to: “Fortune has confirmed that a Verizon iPhone will be released in early 2011.” There it is, your definitive, Verizon, CDMA, iPhone, it’s really happening, rumor of the week.

HTC Trophy review

Why yes, yes it is another Windows Phone 7 device review. Not that we're complaining. It's not everyday that a new mobile operating system this polished arrives at our doorstep. Having already gone in depth with Microsoft's entirely new OS and half dozen or so other WP7 devices, it's now time to dive deep into the life and times of the HTC Trophy. And it's about time. We first saw the words "HTC" and "Trophy" on the same page in a roadmap leak all the way back in 2009. Several of the leaked handsets eventually launched -- but not the 3-inch portrait QWERTY Trophy (codenamed, Spark) running Windows Mobile 6.5. Perhaps that original design was scrapped along with WinMo's relevancy to the consumer smartphone market. We don't know and we may never know. What we can tell you is what it's like to live with a production HTC Trophy for a week -- an average speced touchscreen slate offering anything but a middle-of-the-road experience.

All 89,000 Microsoft staff getting Windows Phone 7 devices

Back in July, when we were still tentatively confident about Windows Phone 7 after our technical preview, rumors surfaced that Microsoft would be encouraging its employees to drink the smartphone kool-aid by giving everyone a free WP7 device. Now the company has confirmed that’s the case, with Microsoft exec Guy Gilbert telling Network World that all 89,000 staff would indeed be getting an early Christmas present.

“Every Microsoft employee will be getting a Windows Phone 7 phone,” Gilbert said, “a lot of people use Windows phones, prior or current. Everybody’s very excited about the fact that they’re going to get a Windows Phone 7.” Internal adoption of Microsoft’s smartphone offerings has been the source of contention in the past, with many employees admitting to picking up the iPhone and other rival devices in preference to Windows Mobile, and even disguising them so as to use them while in work.

That was despite Microsoft changing its expenses policies to only cover the service fees of those employees using a home-grown handset. We’ve a feeling that the company’s coffers are going to take a far greater battering now, what with Windows Phone 7 being a significantly better OS than its little-loved predecessor. It certainly went down a treat at PDC10 this week, where Microsoft gave out around 1,000 phones to developers.

SNSD and 2PM experience mixed reactions at 47th Daejong Film Awards

Having performed just a few hours earlier on Music Bank, SNSD and 2PM headed straight for Kyunghee University’s Hall of Peace for the 47th Daejong Film Awards.

Both groups had been invited to perform congratulatory stages during the two hour long ceremony, with SNSD performing “Oh!” and “Hoot“, while 2PM did “Only You” and “I’ll Be Back.”

Without their regular fan support among the audience comprising of mainly production staff, esteemed guests, directors, actors, actresses, etc, they experienced mixed reactions while performing.

SNSD had to suffer through indifferent reactions and motionless expressions from the actors when the cameras focused on them during their congratulatory performance stage.

Having noted the response, MC Shin Dong Yup made a remark that everyone seemed to look rather stiff which probably lightened up the audience a little.

2PM fared slightly better, as they invoked some crowd reaction during “Only You” by handing roses to Lee Min Jung and Jo Yeo Jung, while Taecyeon gave his to MC Kim Jung Eun. Many other actresses smiled and were probably hoping that they were the ones who would receive a rose.

Barbie Hsu confirms engagement and thinks it's a match made in heaven

Barbie Hsu finally confirmed she is engaged after news of her relationship dominated headlines for the past two days. The couple was spotted at the Shanghai Airport today with their hands held tightly together. Although Da S has yet to speak with the media in person, she did update her blog with a reply to her fiancé’s message.

Wang Xiao Fei wrote:

“Everyone, don’t guess anymore, we are engaged. (The decision was made) very calmly and not sudden. (I) just happened to have met the right person at the appropriate time. We only want a happy and comfortable life, continuing with my work and career, while she can also quietly return to a family life. There is no right or wrong in a relationship, only whether it is suitable or not. Give some room and your best wishes to the two young people please?”

Da S responded:

“(I’m) actually not that young…The point is, I’m very blessed, very certain, very happy! Moreover, our happiness will continue on! I knew it was him from the first time I met Xiao Fei, (we) got engaged after only meeting four times, (I) must say, (it’s a) match made in heaven. Thank you for everyone’s concern! We will take in all the well wishes~”

Apple passes RIM to become fourth largest mobile phone vendor globally as Nokia, LG, and Sony Ericsson struggle

Can you remember the day when Apple's audacious plan to sell 10 million iPhones in its first year was greeted with extreme skepticism within the cellphone industry. Now the computer company is shipping 14.1 million handsets every three months according to the latest IDC numbers, moving Apple into fourth place on its Top 5 list of mobile phone vendors worldwide. That moves Apple ahead of RIM thus confirming a Steve Jobs boast made during Apple's Q4 earnings calls. Sony Ericsson has been pushed off the list for the first since 2004 when IDC began tracking the top 5 vendors.

But that's not the only interesting bit of information we see in the IDC numbers tallying all cellphone shipments, not just smartphones. Overall market leader Nokia, slipped from a 36.5 percent to a 32.4 percent market share since the same quarter last year. IDC notes that Nokia is starting to show some weakness in emerging markets, one of Nokia's last strongholds, with smaller regional handset makers starting to grab market share away from Espoo in Asia/Pacific and Latin America. It's not doing well in smartphones either, with IDC claiming that Android devices are gaining momentum at Nokia's expense. LG is also suffering with a 10.1 percent decline in shipments since the same quarter last year, dropping from 10.6 percent to an 8.3 percent market share globally.

Not to scare anyone, the above is just a composite photo – Rumors suggest that Barbie Hsu (Da S) is engaged to the executive director of a mainland restaurant group with an estimated net worth of 11.5 billion NTD (~375 million USD). The two apparently have met for only 20 days and were said to have already held their engagement party on the 22nd

SM Entertainment blocks all outside contact with SHINee and SNSD

Due to the explosive reactions to news that SHINee’s Jonghyun is dating actress Shin Se Kyung, SM Entertainment has begun blocking all outside contact with SHINee.

SHINee will be making an appearance on KBS 2TV’s “Music Bank” on October 29th, the first public appearance for Jonghyun after his relationship was disclosed to the public.

SM Entertainment acknowledged the amount of attention being put on the group and prepared cautious measures to shield the members by having vans wait outside the studio exit in order to quickly move the group as soon as their rehearsal was completed.

Box office preview: Can 'Saw 3D' silence 'Paranormal Activity 2'?

With only one major release this weekend, it’s tempting to simply predict a first-place finish for Saw 3D and call it a day. However, this Halloween weekend’s battle between two horror films — Lionsgate’ seventh (and allegedly last) Saw entry and Paramount’s holdover Paranormal Activity 2 — may wind up closer than we anticipate. For one thing, there’s bad blood between the two franchises. When Saw VI opened last year on Oct. 23, its weekend victory was all but assured, especially considering that since Saw II, every Saw movie had debuted to at least $30 million. But instead, little Paranormal Activity, with its $15,000 budget, expanded wide and amputated Saw VI‘s box-office prowess. Paranormal Activity grossed $21.1 million that weekend while Saw VI had to settle for second place with $14.1 million (and a series-low domestic total of $27.7 million).

And yet, despite this cautionary preamble, I’m still picking Saw 3D over Paranormal Activity 2. Here’s why:

1. Saw 3D: $23.5 million

The wild-card element at play is 3-D. If everyone who saw Saw VI comes out for Saw 3D and pays the exorbitant 3-D surcharge, that would result in a sizable bump. (A Colbert bump would have been even better). Saw 3D should also benefit from being advertised as the final entry in the franchise. Moviegoers who saw only the first two or three Saw films may still be curious to discover how the whole enchilada ends. Despite these selling points, however, Saw appears to be a (horrible pun intended) dying series. Since Saw II, each successive film has cumulatively earned less than its predecessor. And 3-D doesn’t seem to have quite the same pull it had six months ago; for instance, that extra dimension failed to stir much interest in Wes Craven’s My Soul to Take, which premiered to a measly $6.8 million a few weeks ago. So I’m predicting Saw 3D will split the openings of Saw V ($30.1 million) and Saw VI ($14.1 million) and come away with around $23.5 million from 2,808 locations — still a tidy sum considering the film’s reported $11 million budget.

Katy Perry's "Firework" Video Not Just About Sparkly Boobs

You never know what'll come out of Katy Perry's cleavage next!

Her "California Gurls" video featured a whipped cream-shooting bra, and in her latest video for "Firework," Katy shoots sparks from her chest. This time, though, it's not just about showing skin and rolling around naked in cotton candy clouds:

"Firework" features an overweight girl jumping into a pool, two guys kissing and a young boy fighting back against his abusive dad. (And also fire coming out of various body parts.)

So obviously it's about self-empowerment and embracing who you are. We think? Maybe?

According to Mrs. Russell Brand herself: "I am officially dedicating my new video to #itgetsbetter, because everyone has the spark to be a FIREWORK," she posted on her Twitter.

It Gets Better is a project dedicated to helping gay youth realize that there's hope, no matter what bullying they might face. So do you like the sweet and inspiring version of Katy? Or do you prefer her outrageous and underdressed?

Hands on the Nexus Two by Samsung

The Nexus Two is real. It's made by Samsung, and a friend of ours got to play with it. It's not going rock your face like the Nexus One did. But it will record it with a front-facing camera.

"When I first saw it from 10 feet away, I thought it was the Galaxy S," says our source, who got to handle one. "I was a little surprised it was the Nexus Two," because it's so different from the Nexus One.

It's black and shiny, built with glossy plastic. Up close, though, it's "got this curve to it." While the screen, which our source thinks is the same 4-inch AMOLED affair from the Galaxy series, is flat, the front is "sort of concave" with hard edges. And the back is curved. The tapering makes it feel thinner than Galaxy S, though it might be about the same thickness. "It feels really similar to the Galaxy S in a lot ways." (Note: Our mockup is very approximate.)

Microsoft announces a record first-quarter revenue of $16.20 billion, $5.41 billion in profit

Healthy sales of Windows 7, Office 2010 and Xbox 360 consoles propelled Microsoft to $5.41 billion in net income for its first fiscal quarter of 2011, a 51% increase from the same period a year before.

The company also reported a 25% increase in revenue for the quarter, or $16.20 billion for the quarter that ended Sept. 30. This figure exceeds what many analysts had expected the company to generate for the time period: A poll from Yahoo Finance found that analysts, on the average, expected the company to earn around $15.80 billion for the quarter.

Overall, sales of the Microsoft Office productivity suite grew by 15%, thanks to the June 2010 release of the new version, Office 2010. Xbox 360 consoles sales grew by 38%, and the company also noted that the PC refresh cycle continues to drive Windows 7 sales.

"We are seeing improved business demand and adoption. Our enterprise agreement rates were strong, reflecting business commitment to Windows 7, Office 2010, and our server and database products," said Kevin Turner, Microsoft chief operating officer, in a statement.

Céline Dion Names Her Twins Eddy and Nelson

Meet Eddy and Nelson!

It took several days, but Céline Dion and her husband René Angélil have finally named their twin sons.

The name "Eddy" comes from Eddy Marnay, who produced the singer's first five records. "He was like a father to her," says Dion's rep. "Eddy is a major influence in both Céline and René's lives."

Nelson is named after Nelson Mandela, whom Dion met two years ago while kicking off her world tour in South Africa. "René said that in just the few minutes they were able to spend with him, they were impressed by the human being he is," says the rep.

"Céline and René want their children to be inspired by their names, because they were so inspired by these men," the rep adds.

Dion, 42, told French magazine Gala that the couple had been "going a little bit crazy trying to decide" on names, citing her mother's desire for French names and her eldest son, René-Charles, pushing for American monikers.

The singer, 42, gave birth to the fraternal twins on Saturday at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. On Wednesday, the newly expanded family headed home with three of Dion's sisters and her mom to help out.

The twins' names were first reported by Canada's TVA.

Microsoft Kinect pre-orders sold out at Best Buy, Amazon.com

It’s not exactly a mystery that Microsoft’s upcoming Kinect sensor is highly anticipated — Kinect is expected to be the hottest gaming accessory to launch ahead of the holidays this year. Interested gamers (and friends or relatives of interested gamers) might want to scoop one up as early as possible because demand is already quite high. Business Insider reports that pre-orders for the Microsoft Kinect standalone sensor are already sold out at both Best Buy and Amazon.com. Console bundles are still available at both locations, but that won’t help the millions of gamers out there who already own Xbox 360 consoles. Playing the waiting game until Kinect becomes available at brick and mortar stores is always a gamble, so those looking to be prepared should head over to the GameStop website or Walmart’s website where pre-orders for the Kinect sensor are still available… for now.

Jiro & Calvin's photo with SNSD incurs wrath of otaku fans

Shortly after South Korea's popular girl group SNSD wrapped up their musical performance on stage in Taiwan, the nine ladies had an opportunity to meet with Jiro and Calvin of popular Taiwanese boyband Fahrenheit. In addition, both groups commemorated their meeting with a friendly group photo.

Little did the members of SNSD and Fahrenheit know that after their photo of them posing together was posted online through MTV's website, hundreds of fans reacted with vitrolic and hateful comments such as "Those artists are so privileged that they can just pose with SNSD in a photo. How repulsive!" and "Those artists have it made, not having to wait in line or invest all their strengths to get up close with SNSD. We ordinary people can only watch from afar!"

However, not only are Jiro and Calvin cultural ambassadors in South Korea and Japan through their group Fahrenheit, but Calvin also host his own show on MTV called "Japan, Korea, Music Craze" that is dedicated to the latest pop music news from those two countries. In addition, the Taiwanese group's cultural exchanges with South Korean artists is considered a type of fan service, such as their group photos with South Korean boy band ZE:A when they visited in Taiwan or with South Korean boy band DBSK when they went to South Korea. According to Fahrenheit, each exchange with their foreign counterparts gives their fans even more opportunities to see their idols.

Tom Cruise Reveals New Mission Title—Is It Any Good?

It's been a busy few days for sequel moniker reveals. First we had Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon then The Dark Knight Rises.

Now, realizing that the movie-going public may be math-averse, Tom Cruise has just announced that his fourth Mission: Impossible adventure will eschew the numeric subtitle. So what's the new name and how does it stack up to those other recently unveiled franchises?

Drumroll please...

"It is going to be Mission: Impossible and Ghost Protocol—that will be the title of this film," the A-lister told reporters at a press conference today in Dubai.

"All I wanted is not to have a number," said Cruise, elaborating on the switcheroo. "I always thought we should have a title aside from Mission: Impossible."

Cameras are set to roll in Dubai, hence the presser and boosterish message from Cruise, who hailed the Middle Eastern metropolis as "very cinematic." Hmm...perhaps that's a reference to the local landmark and tallest skyscraper in the world, the Burj Khalifa, and maybe we'll see undercover dude Ethan Hunt engaging in some death-defying hijinks around there?

Filming will subsequently move to Moscow, Prague and Vancouver. Brad Bird, who won Oscars directing Pixar's The Incredibles and Ratatouille, will be making his live-action debut on M:I-4, er, Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol, which costars Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Josh Holloway and Mission vets Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames.

HTC HD7 is hitting T-Mobile November 8th for $200... but it's hitting Amazon for $30 less

Yes, true: T-Mobile announced last week by way of Twitter that it would be retailing the HD7 on November 8th -- the same day as AT&T's Samsung Focus and HTC Surround -- for $199.99 on contract. Thing is, it turns out that AmazonWireless is going to be selling it for $169.99 on contract... which, by our calculations, is $30 less for the same product! Obviously, it's the norm for retailers like Amazon and Wirefly to charge less for phones on new two-year deals than their first-party counterparts -- but what's notable here is that Amazon will be undercutting T-Mobile by a nice little margin on day one. Well, at least we think it'll be day one; the site quotes "usually 1 to 3 weeks" for shipping, which should match up with the drop date, give or take.

TVB Anniversary Series 'Gun Metal Grey' to Premier in Novembere

Another anticipating TVB anniversary series "Gun Metal Grey" is to premier next week. The cast includes two of TVB's former "five tiger generals" Michael Miu and Felix Wong. The two have not collaborated for 24 years since "The Yang's Saga" This year is also their 30th year in the showbiz, so this series is quite memorable for the two.

"Gun Metal Grey" is different than regular police series. It tells how a justified police becomes a dangerous character who commits crime and challenges the law. Felix plays a legend icon in the police field Stone Sir. He was sentenced to jail 15 years ago and regained his position as a police later on. He would torture criminals in private and sees himself as the justified judge. Michael plays Felix's good friend who tries to stop Felix from becoming too extreme. He vows to stop Felix and maintain the current law enforcement system. Cases in the series take examples from Hong Kong's top ten criminal cases, and add in new elements and character relationships. The series re-created these cases and made the plot more intense.

Besides crime solving cases, the series also adds in a love triangle between Felix, Michael, and Jessican Hsuan. Playing a tough and strong magazine editor, Jessica admires Felix and sparks up with Michael. Jessica expresses she feels happy that she is able to work with Felix and Michael, leaving a perfect memory in her showbiz career.

Rihanna pours her curves into racy nude corset as she films new video What's My Name...

She can usually be found strutting her stuff on stage in various sexy and provocative outfits.

But yesterday Rihanna somewhat missed the mark in an incredibly revealing outfit on the set of her new video What's My Name in New York.

The 22-year-old singer was seen wearing a low-cut corset top with denim cutoff shorts, white lace knee-high socks, a loose cardigan and what appeared to be black slippers as she filmed scenes for the new video.

However, Rihanna managed to pull the outfit off and teamed the look with long pointy blue nails, her new bright red hair and a lot of jewellery.

Mariah Carey Finally Confirms Pregnancy

It's been talked about for months now, and finally Mariah Carey has come clean: She's pregnant!

"Yes, we are pregnant. This is true," Carey, 41, said on the Today show Thursday morning as part of a sneak peek at a three-part Access Hollywood interview. "It's been a long journey. It's been tough because I've been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy."

Husband Nick Cannon, 30, joined the interview to talk about the "absolutely emotional" news, adding, "The greatest gift on earth is a child."

Carey, who also told of a miscarriage two years ago, would not reveal her due date. She would only say "it's still early" and "expecting is great." Ever-supportive Cannon said of the loss, "It strengthened our relationship so much … she handled it so well."

The news, of course, won't surprise those who have followed the couple's coy references to pregnancy and babies over the past few months. Rumors flew as the expanding singer seemed to bloom a little more every week, and both Cannon and Carey have spoken about their desire for children.

Google Nexus Two to be made by Samsung, announced on November 8?

A few days ago, Samsung announced that it would unveil a new, mysterious Android device on November 8.

There are no official details on the name and features of the device, but, if the latest rumors are to be believed, this could be the Google Nexus Two.

According to Android and Me, “multiple, trusted sources familiar with the project” say that the Samsung-made Nexus Two will be the first phone to run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and it should be available on multiple carriers.

Of course, Gingerbread is not officially out yet, but we know that it will be really soon. So the date when Samsung will unveil its new handset (November 8 ) may actually coincide with the launch date of Android’s new version. This would mean that the rumored Motorola Droid T2 won’t be the world’s first Gingerbread smartphone after all.
